Dedication to "The Art of Choral Music"

The Union College Singers and Union Harmony presented their annual Spring Concert last night and sang beautifully. Thank you to all of my singers for their hard work and dedication to the choral program. I told the singers last night just prior to the concert that it is important to keep music "alive" at Union and that they were in fact doing just that!

The program drew upon music from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern Eras. They sang (or played) music from the following genres -- madrigal, (latin) motet, oratorio, concerto, anthem, German partsong, and spiritual. They stretched their musical palate, if you will, and did it admirably.

I also want to thank Kathy Smith, UC Staff Accompanist and Barbourville resident, for her dedication to these two choirs and for her hard work in preparing for the program. We are fortunate to have such a talented musician as part of the Union College Music Program. Oh, and I hope she knows that the students love her!

There are three seniors who are completing their studies and will be graduating. Raina Birchfield, Chelsea O'Connell, and Bradley Hobbs have greatly contributed to the music program. Godspeed to all of you as you move on to the next chapter in your lives.

Again, a big thank you to the UC Singers and Union Harmony for their dedication to "The Art of Choral Music."
