Taking Care of the Vocal Mechanism

Do drink plenty of water, it will keep you hydrated, even your vocal chords!

Don't drink milk immediately prior to a performance.

Do rest your voice from time to time throughout the day.

Don't yell at ballgames!

Do go to the doctor if hoarsness persists.

Don't smoke, it can cause your voice to become "raspy."

Do follow your teacher's advice to go on vocal rest, if asked to do so.

Do warm up your voice.

Don't warm up your voice in the car on your way to choir or a voice lesson!

Do listen to your fellow choir singers as you sing.

Don't try to sing louder than the singer next to you.

Do enjoy the art of music making!!
