2009 Christmas Festival at Union College

I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with the choirs of Union College. It truly is a blessing to work in a field I love. The Christmas Festival Concert went very well -- the choirs sang beautifully and the concert was very well received and attended. This concert heralds the Christmas Season in Barbourville and surrounding communities and is a time when we collectively come together to sing, celebrate, and fellowship with one another.

When preparing for a Christmas concert one must carefully consider the audience and what one hopes to achieve in presenting a concert of this nature. My goals were to bring the community together in a Christmas celebration, to warm their hearts, to stir memories and create new ones. Although I intentionally chose some familiar carols, it was also my goal to expose the audience to some music that perhaps they had not heard before -- to expand their musical palate if you will. This careful balance between familiar carols and less familiar literature insures that the program is entertaining, edifying, and yes, educational.

Once again, a big thank you to the UC Singers, Union Harmony, the Regional Chorus, and last but certainly not least, Barbourville and the surrounding communities who continue to support the art of choral music at Union College.

Merry Christmas and Godspeed in your Holiday Travels.
